# Items Specification
Function Virginiamycin is a streptogramin antibiotic similar to pristinamycin and quinupristin/dalfopristin. It is a combination of pristinamycin IIA (virginiamycin M1) and virginiamycin S1. Virginiamycin is used in the fuel ethanol industry to prevent microbial contamination. It is also used in agriculture, specifically in livestock, to accelerate the growth of the animals and to prevent and treat infections. Antibiotics also save as much as 30 percent in feed costs among young swine, although the savings fade as pigs get older, according to a new USDA study.
Application An antibiotic used in livestock feed to prevent disease among young swine. Also is used in ethanol production to prevent microbial contamination.
Description CAS NO.: 11006-76-1, M.F.: C71H84N10O17 M.W.: 1349.48000 Appearance:White or almost white crystalline Virginiamycin complex is a solid powder mixture of 75% virginiamycin M1 (Ostreogrycin A, sc-202269) and 25% virginiamycin S1(sc-202384), two streptogramin antibiotics which present a synergistic bacteriocidal action. Virginiamycin M1 inhibits the function of the 50S ribosomal subunit without blocking its assembly, producing a bacteriostatic effect. With the addition of the virginiamycin S1 component the complex presents bacteriocidal effects, indicating an interaction between the two compounds upon their association with the ribosome.
Dosage One bag for 1000 liter water
